About the work

Michelangelo completed his marble relief of the Battle of the Centaurs between 1490 and 1492. The marble is at Casa Buonarroti.

Two posthumous casts of it come to Miami Beach. The pure silver edition is one of one, cast in .999 fine silver and weighing 2,333 troy ounces. The bronze is the artist's proof, AP1, from an edition of 12. Both were completed in 2022 by ancient lost wax casting, and both measure 31.5 by 35 by 4.5 inches.

Both are catalogued by Global Art Authority, the official catalogue raisonné of posthumous Renaissance masterpieces, which authenticates casts that trace back to the Marinelli foundry collection in Florence and are made from an original plaster mold of the masterpiece. They are currently at Museo Michelangelo in Battle Ground, Washington.
